Special Exhibition    "Catalina Outpost: Military Possession of Catalina Island, January - September, 1864"

In 1864, soldiers from Drum Barracks took military possession of Catalina Island.  Using maps, photographs, paintings and official reports this exhibition looks at the role Catalina played in the Civil War and the controversial reasons behind the Army's decision to take possession of the island.  On display February - October 2017, Drum Barracks Civil War Museum, North Exhibition Hall.

Civil War Book Club Meetings

Meetings of the Richard Rollins Civil War Book Club are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 pm in the Library.   All are welcome to attend, even if they have not read the book, as they can participate in or listen to a lively discussion of that monthly book selection. There are no meetings held in July and August.  Check the Book Club entry under "Events" for a list of the books that will be discussed in 2017.

Blue Star Museum, May 29 - September 3, 2017

Drum Barracks is a 2017 Blue Star Museum, providing active duty military personnel and their families free admission now through September 3, 2017.

Hear stories about the spirits of Drum Barracks as you take a candlelight tour through the residence.  Enjoy apple cider, holiday treats and fireside Civil War stories.  Tours at 6:30, 7:00, 7:30 and 8:00 pm.  Tickets are no longer available for purchase by phone or at the museum, and tickets WILL NOT be sold at the door.

Trick or Treat the Drum, Tuesday, October 31, 2017, 7-9pm  Free Event

Candlelight walk-through of first floor of museum, with children in costume receiving candy in specified rooms.

Saturday, November 18, 2017   2:00 pm      "Remembrance Day"

For the seventh year, the Drum Barracks Museum joins in the national remembrance and celebration of President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address given at the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery on November 19, 1863. The event is sponsored by the Gen. W. S. Rosecrans Camp No. 2, Department of the Pacific, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and their Auxiliary, the ASUVCW.  Free admission.

Saturday - Sunday, Dec. 2-3, 2017. 11:00 am-4:00 pm   "A Civil War Christmas"

The 17th Annual Holiday Celebration. An event that should not be missed and one that has become a holiday tradition for thousands! The Banning Museum and the Drum Barracks Museum sponsor free horse-drawn carriage rides between the two sites, which are each decorated for true holiday delight. Admission to both museums and the carriage rides are all free. Now that's the holiday spirit.

Sunday, December 10, 2017       Wilmington Holiday Parade

Starting at noon, the parade moves north up Avalon Boulevard from Anaheim Street, ending at Banning Park.  Volunteers in period attire march along with staff and reenact skirmishes for delighted spectators.
